The Person Behind the Guides
Hi, I'm Maya Hart.
I'm a mom of two, a former marketing professional, and the founder of HomeBump Meals. After a surprise gestational diabetes diagnosis left me drowning in confusing nutrition advice, I turned my tiny kitchen into a test lab for meal plans that actually work.
But here’s the thing: lived experience is powerful, but when it comes to feeding a baby, it needs to be backed by real science. That’s why every guide on this site is meticulously researched using ACOG and ADA guidelines, and formally reviewed by licensed Registered Dietitians.
From marketing meetings to 3 a.m. meltdowns in the kitchen
Before kids, cooking was my weekend hobby. I’d leisurely browse farmers’ markets and spend an hour on a single pasta dish. Then I got pregnant with my son, and everything changed.
By week 6, extreme fatigue and constant nausea made the sight of my stove unbearable. I survived on plain crackers and ginger ale for weeks. At 28 weeks, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes—a complete shock. My doctor handed me a one-page diet sheet and said, “Eat small, frequent, balanced meals.” I nodded, went home, and stood in my tiny apartment kitchen completely lost. I couldn’t find a single resource that answered the real question: “I feel awful, I have 15 minutes, and my fridge is half empty. What do I actually cook for this baby right now?”
So I started experimenting. I dove deep into prenatal nutrition research, spending countless hours studying the official guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA). I turned my kitchen into a test lab, creating one-pan, blood-sugar-friendly meals that actually tasted like food, not cardboard. When my son was born, the journey continued through postpartum recovery and breastfeeding. I found myself with a screaming newborn in one arm and a desperate need for calories that didn’t come from a granola bar. The “One-Handed Postpartum Meals” series was born during those foggy, beautiful, exhausting days.
HomeBumpMeals.com exists because I believe no mom should have to choose between nourishing her body and surviving the day. Every recipe here is real-world tested, by me, in my actual kitchen, often while holding a baby or battling morning sickness. There are no stock photos, no unrealistic expectations, and absolutely no judgment if you ate crackers for dinner last night.
The journey in a few key moments
2019 – First pregnancy, overwhelming nausea
Struggled to eat anything. Realized the “pregnancy nutrition” books didn't help when you can't stand up.
28 weeks – Gestational diabetes diagnosis
The turning point. Began serious self-education and recipe development. Found my calling.
2021 – Postpartum & second baby
Navigated breastfeeding hunger, sleep deprivation, and feeding a toddler. The “one-handed meal” philosophy was born.
2026 – HomeBumpMeals.com launches
Turned my kitchen experiments into a full resource for moms everywhere, grounded in established medical guidelines and zero judgment.

How We Create & Review Content
Look, I get it. When you’re pregnant, it’s way too easy to fall down a 3 AM Google rabbit hole. At HomeBump Meals, we don’t do fad diets, and we definitely don’t do “trust me, bro” nutrition advice. Every piece of content goes through a strict 3-step process:
1. Real-Life Development
I (Maya) develop every recipe and guide in my tiny kitchen, based on my lived experience with gestational diabetes, nausea, and postpartum recovery.
2. Guideline Alignment
Drafts are cross-referenced with current, evidence-based guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and the FDA.
3. Clinical Review
Before publication, our content is reviewed by licensed Registered Dietitians specializing in maternal health to ensure absolute safety and nutritional accuracy.

I believe lived experience is powerful, but when it comes to feeding a baby, it needs to be backed by real knowledge. That's why I’ve built my approach on these non-negotiable pillars:
- Evidence-Based Research: While I'm not a doctor, I am a relentless researcher. I build my meal concepts using the official nutritional guidelines published by ACOG and the ADA.
- Safety-First Approach: Every recipe is carefully cross-referenced with established prenatal nutrition guidelines. I focus heavily on food safety, GD carbohydrate balancing, and nutrient density.
- Transparent Sourcing: We link directly to primary medical sources so you can verify the information yourself. No gatekeeping.
- Relentless Real-World Testing: All meals are developed in a real, tiny kitchen, with a toddler interrupting and a baby monitor buzzing. If it doesn't work in real life, it doesn't get published.
- No Judgment: We believe in meeting you where you are. If that means crackers for dinner, we’ve got a guide for that, too.
- Regular Updates: Medical guidelines change. We review and update our core nutrition guides at least annually to ensure they remain current.
