The Real Mom Behind the Recipes
Hi, I’m Maya Hart.
I’m a 34-year-old mom of two, a former marketing professional, and the founder of HomeBumpMeals. What started as a desperate attempt to feed myself during a high-risk pregnancy turned into a mission: to make real, nourishing food accessible for every mom—no matter how exhausted, nauseous, or short on time she is.
From marketing meetings to 3 a.m. meltdowns in the kitchen
Before kids, cooking was my weekend hobby. I’d leisurely browse farmers’ markets and spend an hour on a single pasta dish. Then I got pregnant with my son, and everything changed.
By week 6, extreme fatigue and constant nausea made the sight of my stove unbearable. I survived on plain crackers and ginger ale for weeks. At 28 weeks, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes—a complete shock. My doctor handed me a one-page diet sheet and said, “Eat small, frequent, balanced meals.” I nodded, went home, and stood in my tiny apartment kitchen completely lost. I couldn’t find a single resource that answered the real question: “I feel awful, I have 15 minutes, and my fridge is half empty. What do I actually cook for this baby right now?”
So I started experimenting. I dove into prenatal nutrition research, took a certification course in prenatal and postpartum nutrition, and eventually partnered with a registered dietitian who reviews every single recipe I publish. I turned my kitchen into a test lab, creating one-pan, blood-sugar-friendly meals that actually tasted like food—not cardboard. When my son was born, the journey continued through postpartum recovery and breastfeeding. I found myself with a screaming newborn in one arm and a desperate need for calories that didn’t come from a granola bar. The “One-Handed Postpartum Meals” series was born during those foggy, beautiful, exhausting days.
HomeBumpMeals.com exists because I believe no mom should have to choose between nourishing her body and surviving the day. Every recipe here is real-world tested—by me, in my actual kitchen, often while holding a baby or battling morning sickness. There are no stock photos, no unrealistic expectations, and absolutely no judgment if you ate crackers for dinner last night.
The journey in a few key moments
2019 – First pregnancy, overwhelming nausea
Struggled to eat anything. Realised the “pregnancy nutrition” books didn't help when you can't stand up.
28 weeks – Gestational diabetes diagnosis
The turning point. Began serious self-education and recipe development. Found my calling.
2021 – Postpartum & second baby
Navigated breastfeeding hunger, sleep deprivation, and feeding a toddler. The “one-handed meal” philosophy was born.
2024 – HomeBumpMeals.com launches
Turned my kitchen experiments into a full resource for moms everywhere—with RD oversight and zero judgment.
My expertise (beyond just “being a mom”)
I believe lived experience is powerful—but I also believe it should be backed by real knowledge. That's why I’ve built my approach on three pillars:
Formal Training
Completed a comprehensive certification course in prenatal and postpartum nutrition. I list the specific program on my full CV (ask me!).
RD Partnership
Every recipe on this site is reviewed by a Registered Dietitian for nutritional balance, trimester-appropriateness, and blood sugar considerations.
Relentless Testing
All meals are developed in a real, tiny kitchen—with a toddler interrupting and a baby monitor buzzing. If it doesn't work in real life, it doesn't get published.
Meet the consulting dietitian
I work with a licensed Registered Dietitian (RD) who reviews each recipe before it goes live. She ensures every meal supports proper nutrition for pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding—without ever sacrificing taste or practicality. Her guidance is the professional backbone behind every “why” you'll find in my ingredient notes (like iron pairing or blood sugar balancing). You can find her credentials and full disclosure on our Medical Disclaimer page.
“I’m not here to be a perfect Instagram mom. I’m here to help you feed yourself and your baby with whatever energy, time, and ingredients you have right now. You’re doing great.”— Maya Hart
